The main point of most membership websites is to make money. So the question naturally comes up, “How do I get paid”. Well, like most other aspects of developing a membership website on top of WordPress, this is very easy.
There are literally dozens of payment options. These include gateways, shopcarts and some methods in the middle. For our purposes, PayPal is the best choice and a terrific starting point. If you want to know why I think PayPal is the best starting point, go and watch the Membership website configuration video (starting about 18:15).
In this training I show you how to get paid in the following ways:
- One time payment for lifetime access
- Recurring payments for continual access
- Use trial offers (first month free, extended trial period, etc.)
- Pay per post
I think you’ll find that what I provide you with here will accommodate just about any combination of billing that you might be interested in testing on your membership website. You’ll also be surprised that you can do everything you need in just a few minutes and without needing to understand a bunch of technical stuff.

Daniel, why do you recommend adding custom fields where the buyer can choose a username and password instead of letting paypal assign these values?
I only ask because I paste my paypal buy now button code into a custom “Buy” button on my site. If I add these custom fields to the code then I won’t be able to use my custom button. Is it going to cause problems for me or my customers if I don’t allow them to select their own username and password?
It shouldn’t cause any trouble at all. Someone might wonder why they weren’t asked for a user/pass, but you can add some copy explaining that access details will be emailed to them.
Daniel,
You did a very good job explaining how to integrate Memberwing and a standard Paypal account. I went through the steps and and it was straightforward, until I decided to switch to Paypal Payments Pro and get 1Shopping cart…
Can you suggest a great step by step tutorial to integrate those three? I don’t understand how to link membership levels on Memberwing to products created on 1Shopping cart.
Thank you for your time.
Lanzo,
I don’t have a good tutorial to recommend for that integration. I have created an integration for using Authorize.net, but no 1shoppingcart, directly with MemberWing.
Alright I’ll try that. Thanks for your input!
Hi Daniel,
I have added username and login fields to the PayPal buttons according to what I learned on the WMU training – but… there is a problem: when I try to login with the username and password provided on the buttons it doesn’t work.
Would you please help me with this?
Thank you!
